The First Day of College Essay
The First Day of College EssayThe first day of college is usually marked by anxiety as well as doubt and frustration. Your goal for the first day of your freshman year at a new college is to make it a very memorable one by writing a truly great essay, and if you can't do that, then you will be miserable through most of your college experience.I remember being so excited about my first day, even to the point of trying to cram in the hours between my classes into the early morning hours. I wanted to be at college the very next day, I had to get it all done by the end of the summer and then I could relax for a while and take on the rest of my classes in the fall. Of course by the time I left school, I was exhausted and having a hard time concentrating at all.I now realize that most people who took their first day of college off before going into a true test of their intelligence actually ended up with much more time to do nothing than they did on their first day. I also realized that th is is actually the best way to start thinking about your day and how you are going to spend it. If you have a lot of homework or studies to do during the day, it is helpful to have a break in order to get a good night's sleep and prepare for the next day.The first day of college is not the most important day of your life. It is the first day in which you are required to show some of your personality and show what you can do, both as a student and as a person. You do not want to come out of the first day completely spent or drained, because it will affect your entire first semester. One way to make sure that you do not come out of day one of college completely worn out is to start writing an essay as soon as you wake up each morning. In order to keep it short and sweet, try to write only three paragraphs, one of which should be a brief introduction to yourself and the first day of college. Include some of your top tips for the day, including any useful information that you learned fro m class or other students, anything that you did to make yourself comfortable, anything that you did to help fellow students, etc. Your essays are not supposed to be about yourself and your academic success, they are a way to keep the focus on what you learned in class. The most important thing is to take some notes during the class and carry them with you as you work on your essay. The second day is when you should start writing your essay and another chance to make sure that you don't do too much work during the day. Just think about what you are going to write about and make a list of three to five paragraphs and begin writing from there. Just remember to write about something you are excited about and enjoy, because it can really affect your whole first semester. The third day is where you can really put some of your research skills to use. Take the time to go over your list of topics in a book, watch a movie, or listen to a song that you like. It is actually quite helpful to rese arch a topic each day before you actually write your essay, just to make sure that you have enough of a sense of it before you have to put pen to paper.Make sure that you start your essay the day before it is due, and then just finish the day before the deadline. Otherwise, you will end up writing the whole thing in one day, which is incredibly frustrating. Go into the first day of college knowing that you will need a good time management system to help you stay organized and accomplish your assignment without procrastinating and wasting your time.
